It’s how they make their money. I came out of the deal not feeling like I got ripped off, and I wanted it gone since I have no idea how long I’ll be unemployed for. Although I have 2 companies that seem very interested in me, so yeah looks like I’ll be back in the market for a second car soon.

I was actually thinking about whether or not 2,000 is enough for them. The tow may have cost a couple of hundred, they had to pay the guy probably $200 for checking out the car and doing the paper work for it...then they have to store it (and paying for that space) and pay for advertising. Their break even might be $1000 over what they paid you, which I find pretty interesting. It’s good info to know if you’re buying from them

A colleague went to a dealership the other day to test drive a couple of Renault Capturs. The salesman had someone go over there existing Renault Clio for an appraisal. The guy came back and said “okay, we’ve looked at your car and one of the rear bumper mounts is broken and one of the seats has a slight tear”, to which my colleague replied “yes I know that, they were there when we bought the car from you two years ago. You were supposed to fix the rear bumper bracket but just cable tied it and the tear you were going to fix, you never got round to it. Check your sales book, it’ all written in there. Your sales team are good and informative but your after sales is absolutely shit”. To which the sales man scurried off with his tail between his legs.
Ye’, many buy their car from a dealer but get there car maintained from a local garage closer to home.

The 2k mark up is before they prepare the car for final sale too, so it’s probably a 1500-1600 mark up. Well the inspector was a Beepi employee and the tow truck had their logo on it, I assume they also own their own place to store cars. Obviously there is some over head, but having all those services in house probably cuts down on it.
